For over three decades the Ashworth by the Sea on Hampton Beach, New Hampshire has enjoyed a reputation as one of the best fine dining establishments in New England.

In May, 2010 we created a new, original restaurant at the landmark hotel by the sea. Breakers at the Ashworth is set in the historic Ashworth by the Sea Hotel established in 1912. In a sophisticated yet casual setting with amazing views of Hampton Beach, Ashworth by the Sea celebrates the new, contemporary look of the Breakers Restaurant and Bar in Hampton Beach, NH.

Oversized windows provide spectacular ocean views, a granite-topped bar and raised stone hearth fireplace, wood flooring, custom millwork and new furniture, textiles and lighting contribute to an inviting, casual atmosphere. The bar completely wraps around what was once two separate and distinct rooms, creating one expansive space. The Breakers Restaurant now accommodates more people and the popular dance floor has been enlarged.

"Our goal was to give the lounge and restaurant a fresh new look while retaining the charm of this historic oceanfront hotel," said Peter Coutis, General Manager of the Ashworth. "There are very few places to dance and have a good time and we feel the Ashworth is the place to be."

At the Breakers we can accommodate every mood and palate; we've also revamped our menus: new menu items include ahi tuna, NY sirloin steak au poivre, grilled Atlantic salmon and bartlett pear salad.

Naturally with our seaside setting, fresh New England seafood and North Atlantic lobster are still among our specialties -- we offer classics such as baked, stuffed haddock, lobster pie, a deep-fried seafood platter and our award-winning clam chowder.

John Adams - Executive Chef

John Adams started his career at Giovanni's on Hampton Beach as a dishwasher and has returned to Hampton as the Executive Chef of the Ashworth by the Sea. After graduating with a degree in Food Service Management from the University of New Hampshire, John worked as a line cook at the Warehouse restaurant in Portsmouth, NH under Chef John Willis of Abenaqui Country Club. One of his most memorable moments was working with Collin and Rice Catering on Nancy Reagan's niece's wedding in the early 1980's.

Years later, John joined Wheelebrator Northeast headquarters in Hampton, NH as the assistant chef. There he prepared breakfast each morning and a homemade lunch each afternoon for 100 employees. In 1999 his passion for culinary arts brought him to the Ashworth by the Sea as a line cook. The late Chef Hock Ann Ng taught John many tricks of the trade and helped him to master the culinary industry.

Now the Executive Chef of the Ashworth by the Sea and Breakers Restaurant, John oversees up to 50 employees, three restaurants, dinner buffet, banquets and events. With the new restaurant, John was able to pair classic favorites with refined flavors to create the new Breakers menu. John Adams is an active member of the American Culinary Federation.
